I2C-ISS driver fail

Postby wolf99 » Fri Mar 18, 2011 2:14 pm

Hi All

I have sent a mail to support about this but would post here also in case anyone has had similar experience.

I received one of your I2C-ISS devices today and tried to install the driver however the new device wizard gives the error:
"Cannot install this hardware:

Communications port

An error occured during the installation of this device

The system cannot find the file specified."

And viewing the device in the device manager, shows as a Com port with a big yellow question mark over it. The device status is given as: "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)"

and clicking on "driver details" button in the driver tab gives error: "No driver files are required or have been loaded for this device."
I am using windowsXP 64-bit, how can I resolve this?

Thank you

Did you use the driver from the website? http://www.robot-electronics.co.uk/file ... ch-inf.zip

Hi Chris

Yes I used the driver from this page: http://www.robot-electronics.co.uk/htm/usb_iss_tech.htm

This does work on other PCs, my 32-bit XP at home and another 64-bit XP at work that has exactly the same machine build...

So its likely to be some other software that is interfering, however as far as I can tell the only software I have that uses ports is also the same on the other XP 64 here...

I take it no-one else here has ever come across anything similar??

Right click the port and take a look at the driver properties tab, to see if the PC is assigning the Devantech driver. You may also want to try uninstalling the driver and reinstalling.

Hello,

Is there an official solution for this problem?
I have the same problem with Windows Embedded 7 (64bit).
I plug the ISS in and then I go into Device Manager to Install Driver. Point to devantech inf file (.cat is there also).
Windows tries to install driver but fails with 0x80070002 : windows fails to find the file specified.
I think there might be a file missing in the driver package.
Anyone solved this problem?

The file it fails to find may be USBSER.SYS.
You may need to copy this from archive.
Windows 7 (x64 64bit)
- Source of usbser.sys: C:\Windows\System 32\DriverStore\FileRepository\mdmcpq.inf_amd64_neutral_9bb71004e7b8f7ae (archive file)
- Destination to copy: C:\Windows\System 32\drivers

On our systems the hex digits at the end are slightly different to the above.

Hi Gerry,

Thanks for that.
To solve this I did the following:

For installation under Windows Embedded Standard 7 64bit you need to add a required driver: Modem/Compaq USB Modem Driver
This will install the required file usbser.sys which is referenced in the driver inf file.
This driver is only available in the ICE tool and not IBW!

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the information.
This should help others using Windows Embedded 7 (64-bit).
